Time to relax!

  • “The soundtrack mimics the sound of ice melting. The artists behind the video say it’s meant to cause an autonomous sensory meridian response, which is characterized as ‘a distinct, pleasurable tingling sensation in the head, scalp, back, or peripheral regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, or cognitive stimuli.’ The video’s description says it’s best enjoyed on a full screen with headphones — just let it wash over you.”  – Watching Frozen Food Defrost Is Surprisingly Soothing
  • “The single button on the device releases a scent described as ‘powdered rose, peach and pear, with notes of talc and musk.’ After 30 minutes, the machine kicks over to the second scent designed to keep you in a deep sleep, which releases an odor of ‘fresh linen with notes of soap and sandalwood.’ According to Sensorwake, the scents were developed with moments linked to our emotions and peaceful childhood memories to help you relax.” – Device lulls you to sleep with relaxing scents
  • “Hygge — pronounced to sound somewhere between ‘booger’ and ‘hooker’ — is an apparently untranslatable concept which embodies the Nordic art of cosiness. Of course, the fact that we can call it cosiness, or perhaps conviviality, slightly ruins the idea it is untranslatable. As does the far closer German word Gemütlichkeit, which as far as I gather, is pretty much an exact equivalent.” – Hygge: the Danish key to happiness or pseudo-wisdom?
  • “New Year’s Day hangover still going strong? Sometimes, all you need is to pretend you’re bathing somewhere dreamy, and not sprawled on your sofa in a onesie.” – 9 soul-soothing views from hot tubs around the world
  • “When you walk through a cemetery you get a different sense of time. It resonates deeper in the soul. A stand of spruce trees whispers intimate words to the dead. I linger in the same places I stood as a young man. The years have grown on me like the rings of a tree. I accept it as the terms of my existence.” –  The tales a cemetery can tell, soothing and otherwise

Time to relax with the best of (and last of) 2016!

  • “This was a weird year for many—including Mother Nature. This year brought us two-headed sharks, anal-drumming caterpillars, and a spider with an internal disco ball—you can’t make this stuff up.” – The 10 Weirdest Animal Stories of 2016
  • “Every year, I find big themes or specific company stories that I feel are impressive, important, or indicative of where the world is going. In 2016, two dwarf the rest: the election of Donald Trump and significant action on climate change. The context for sustainable business in 2017 may center on the competition between these two stories; that is, how will Trump and his team impact or impede progress on climate and other sustainability issues?” – 9 Sustainable Business Stories That Shaped 2016
  • “The NPR music team picks its favorite music vidoes of 2016.” – Best music videos of 2016
  • “Thanks to the wonder that is the internet, every truth comes with two lies. There were tons of rumors that circulated this year about our favorite movies, shows, and comic book franchises. Of course, tons of them turned out to be total bullshit—and sometimes, that was a real disappointment.” – 13 Rumors From 2016 We Wish Had Been True
  • “From Making Oprah to Trumpcast and My Dad Wrote a Porno, here are the most brilliant, essential listens of the year.” – The 50 best podcasts of 2016
